To Henna or not to Henna...
In the battle journey Odyssey toward healthy natural hair, many product recommendations arise, many you try, and many you fail. But there seems to be a cohesive approval of one thing in the natural hair community... Henna treatments. Henna is a plant derived from humid, dry climates, and is said to have been used as a hair dyeing method in Egypt over 5,000 years ago. So what's my beef with Henna? Well here are the pros and cons...
PROS: Strengthens the hair follicle and cuticle, imparts shine, gives your hear a silky smooth feel, fights breakage, many have tried it and many approve, and it is all natural.
CONS: Due to the dye contained it can produce a less than desirable red hue to your hair (unless you add indigo, which brings me to my next point), it can get extremely messy (the dye could completely ruin your clothes, fabrics, and your skin!), very time consuming (must be left on for 4-12 hours... yes 4-12 hours), some are allergic to the Henna plant which can cause severe reactions (I'm allergic to almost everything... even grass, so this is a major concern for me), many say henna has a hay or grass like smell.
My mom always told me that if you're trying to make the right decision about something, write down the pros and the cons, and if the cons outweigh the pros... then you have to let it go! Though the scale is toppling on the cons side, I'm still undecided about whether to Henna or not to Henna... that is the question!
What do you think?
